Ampulla of Vater | Duodenal Papilla, Major | Hepatopancreatic Ampulla | Ampulla, Hepatopancreatic | Ampulla, Vater' | s | Ampullas, Hepatopancreatic | Hepatopancreatic Ampullas | Major Duodenal Papilla | Vater Ampulla | Vaters Ampulla

The hepatopancreatic ampulla. A dilation of the duodenal papilla that is the opening of the juncture of the common bile duct and the main pancreatic duct.

Common Bile Duct Diseases

Diseases of the common bile duct, Vater's ampulla, or Oddi's sphincter.

Common Bile Duct Neoplasms

Neoplasms of the common bile duct including Vater's ampulla and Oddi's sphincter.

Cholangiopancreatography, Endoscopic Retrograde

ERCP | Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography | Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography, Endoscopic | Cholangiopancreatographies, Endoscopic Retrograde | Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatographies

Fiberoptic endoscopy designed for duodenal observation and cannulation of VATER'S AMPULLA, in order to visualize the pancreatic and biliary duct system by retrograde injection of contrast media. Endoscopic (Vater) papillotomy (SPHINCTEROTOMY, ENDOSCOPIC) may be performed during this procedure.

Bile Duct Obstruction, Extrahepatic

Biliary Stasis, Extrahepatic | Cholestasis, Extrahepatic | Jaundice, Cholestatic, Extrahepatic | Jaundice, Obstructive, Extrahepatic | Biliary Stases, Extrahepatic | Cholestases, Extrahepatic | Extrahepatic Biliary Stases

Impairment of bile flow through the hepatic, cystic, or common bile ducts or Vater's ampulla. This is sometimes called surgical jaundice.

Cholestasis

Bile Duct Obstruction | Biliary Stasis | Jaundice, Cholestatic | Jaundice, Mechanical | Jaundice, Obstructive | Bile Duct Obstructions | Biliary Stases | Cholestases | Cholestatic Jaundice | Cholestatic Jaundices | Duct Obstruction, Bile

Impairment of biliary flow at any level from the hepatocyte to Vater's ampulla.

Sphincterotomy, Endoscopic

Endoscopic Papillotomy | Endoscopic Sphincterotomy | Papillotomy, Endoscopic | Endoscopic Papillotomies | Endoscopic Sphincterotomies | Papillotomies, Endoscopic | Sphincterotomies, Endoscopic

Incision of Oddi's sphincter or Vater's ampulla performed by inserting a sphincterotome through an endoscope (DUODENOSCOPE) often following retrograde cholangiography (CHOLANGIOPANCREATOGRAPHY, ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE). Endoscopic treatment by sphincterotomy is the preferred method of treatment for patients with retained or recurrent bile duct stones post-cholecystectomy, and for poor-surgical-risk patients that have the gallbladder still present.

Oddi's Sphincter

Oddi Sphincter | Oddis Sphincter | Sphincter, Oddi' | s

The sphincter of the hepatopancreatic ampulla within the duodenal papilla. The COMMON BILE DUCT and main pancreatic duct pass through this sphincter.

Sphincterotomy, Transhepatic

Sphincteroplasty, Transduodenal | Sphincterotomy, Transduodenal | Sphincteroplasty, Transhepatic | Sphincteroplasties, Transduodenal | Sphincteroplasties, Transhepatic | Sphincterotomies, Transduodenal | Sphincterotomies, Transhepatic

Surgery of the smooth muscle sphincter of the hepatopancreatic ampulla to relieve blocked biliary or pancreatic ducts.

Fallopian Tubes

Oviducts, Mammalian | Salpinges | Salpinx | Uterine Tubes | Fallopian Tube | Mammalian Oviduct | Mammalian Oviducts | Oviduct, Mammalian | Tube, Fallopian | Tube, Uterine | Tubes, Fallopian | Tubes, Uterine | Uterine Tube

A pair of highly specialized muscular canals extending from the UTERUS to its corresponding OVARY. They provide the means for OVUM collection, and the site for the final maturation of gametes and FERTILIZATION. The fallopian tube consists of an interstitium, an isthmus, an ampulla, an infundibulum, and fimbriae. Its wall consists of three histologic layers: serous, muscular, and an internal mucosal layer lined with both ciliated and secretory cells.
