A count of the number of leukocytes and erythrocytes per unit volume in a sample of venous blood. A complete blood count (CBC) also includes measurement of the hemoglobin, hematocrit, and erythrocyte indices.

Dysgerminoma

Disgerminoma | Disgerminomas | Dysgerminomas

A malignant ovarian neoplasm, thought to be derived from primordial germ cells of the sexually undifferentiated embryonic gonad. It is the counterpart of the classical seminoma of the testis, to which it is both grossly and histologically identical. Dysgerminomas comprise 16% of all germ cell tumors but are rare before the age of 10, although nearly 50% occur before the age of 20. They are generally considered of low-grade malignancy but may spread if the tumor extends through its capsule and involves lymph nodes or blood vessels. Blood Coagulation

Blood Clotting | Blood Coagulation Effects | Coagulation, Blood | Effects, Blood Coagulation | Blood Clottings | Blood Coagulation Effect | Clotting, Blood | Effect, Blood Coagulation

The process of the interaction of blood coagulation factors that results in an insoluble fibrin clot.

Blood Glucose Self-Monitoring

Blood Sugar Self-Monitoring | Home Blood Glucose Monitoring | Monitoring, Home Blood Glucose | Self-Monitoring, Blood Glucose | Glucose, Blood, Self Monitoring | Glucose, Blood, Self-Monitoring | Blood Glucose Self Monitoring

Self evaluation of whole blood glucose levels outside the clinical laboratory. A digital or battery-operated reflectance meter may be used. It has wide application in controlling unstable insulin-dependent diabetes.

The major human blood type system which depends on the presence or absence of two antigens A and B. Type O occurs when neither A nor B is present and AB when both are present. A and B are genetic factors that determine the presence of enzymes for the synthesis of certain glycoproteins mainly in the red cell membrane.

Hematocele

Hematoceles

Hemorrhage into a canal or cavity of the body, especially into the tunica vaginalis testis.

Blood Viscosity

Blood Viscosities | Viscosities, Blood | Viscosity, Blood

The internal resistance of the blood to shear forces. The in vitro measure of whole blood viscosity is of limited clinical utility because it bears little relationship to the actual viscosity within the circulation, but an increase in the viscosity of circulating blood can contribute to morbidity in patients suffering from disorders such as sickle cell anemia and polycythemia.

Blood-Air Barrier

Air-Blood Barrier | Alveolocapillary Membrane | Air Blood Barrier | Air-Blood Barriers | Alveolocapillary Membranes | Barrier, Air-Blood | Barrier, Blood-Air | Barriers, Air-Blood | Barriers, Blood-Air | Blood Air Barrier | Blood-Air Barriers

The barrier between capillary blood and alveolar air comprising the alveolar epithelium and capillary endothelium with their adherent basement membranes and epithelial cell cytoplasm. Gaseous exchange occurs across this membrane.
