Partial Thromboplastin Time

Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time | Cephalin-Kaolin Coagulation Time | Kaolin-Cephalin Coagulation Time | Thromboplastin Time, Partial | Coagulation Time, Cephalin-Kaolin | Cephalin Kaolin Coagulation Time

Test of the intrinsic (factors VIII, IX, XI, and XII) and common (fibrinogen, prothrombin, factors V and X) pathways of coagulation in which a mixture of plasma and phospholipid platelet substitute (e.g., crude cephalins, soybean phosphatides) is recalcified and the time required for the appearance of fibrin strands measured. Activation may be provided by contact with the glass tube or exposure to activators (e.g., ellagic acid, particulate silicates such as diatomaceous earth or kaolin) before addition of the calcium chloride. It is used as a screening test and to monitor heparin therapy.

Factor XI

Coagulation Factor XI | Plasma Thromboplastin Antecedent | Blood Coagulation Factor XI | Antecedent, Plasma Thromboplastin | Factor XI, Coagulation | Thromboplastin Antecedent, Plasma | XI, Coagulation Factor

Stable blood coagulation factor involved in the intrinsic pathway. The activated form XIa activates factor IX to IXa. Deficiency of factor XI is often called hemophilia C.

Denture, Partial, Fixed

Fixed Bridge | Fixed Partial Denture | Pontic | Bridge, Fixed | Bridges, Fixed | Denture, Fixed Partial | Dentures, Fixed Partial | Fixed Bridges | Fixed Partial Dentures | Partial Denture, Fixed | Partial Dentures, Fixed | Pontics

A partial denture attached to prepared natural teeth, roots, or implants by cementation.

Epilepsies, Partial

Abdominal Epilepsy | Digestive Epilepsy | Epilepsy, Focal | Epilepsy, Simple Partial | Focal Seizure Disorder | Gelastic Epilepsy | Partial Seizure Disorder | Seizure Disorder, Partial | Simple Partial Seizures | Amygdalo-Hippocampal Epilepsy

Conditions characterized by recurrent paroxysmal neuronal discharges which arise from a focal region of the brain. Partial seizures are divided into simple and complex, depending on whether consciousness is unaltered (simple partial seizure) or disturbed (complex partial seizure). Both types may feature a wide variety of motor, sensory, and autonomic symptoms. Partial seizures may be classified by associated clinical features or anatomic location of the seizure focus. A secondary generalized seizure refers to a partial seizure that spreads to involve the brain diffusely. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp317)

Epilepsy, Complex Partial

Complex Partial Epilepsy | Complex Partial Seizure Disorder | Cryptogenic Partial Complex Epilepsy | Disorder, Complex Partial Seizures | Epilepsy, Cryptogenic, Partial Complex | Epilepsy, Psychic Equivalent | Epilepsy, Psychomotor

A disorder characterized by recurrent partial seizures marked by impairment of cognition. During the seizure the individual may experience a wide variety of psychic phenomenon including formed hallucinations, illusions, deja vu, intense emotional feelings, confusion, and spatial disorientation. Focal motor activity, sensory alterations and AUTOMATISM may also occur. Complex partial seizures often originate from foci in one or both temporal lobes. The etiology may be idiopathic (cryptogenic partial complex epilepsy) or occur as a secondary manifestation of a focal cortical lesion (symptomatic partial complex epilepsy). (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp317-8)

Epilepsy, Partial, Sensory

Focal Sensory Seizure | Partial Epilepsy, Sensory | Seizure Disorder, Partial, Sensory | Sensory Epilepsy | Focal Seizure Disorder, Sensory | Gustatory Partial Seizure | Olfactory Partial Seizure | Partial Sensory Seizure | Epilepsy, Sensory

A disorder characterized by recurrent focal onset seizures which have sensory (i.e., olfactory, visual, tactile, gustatory, or auditory) manifestations. Partial seizures that feature alterations of consciousness are referred to as complex partial seizures (EPILEPSY, COMPLEX PARTIAL).

Day Care

Hospitalization, Partial | Care, Day | Hospitalizations, Partial | Partial Hospitalization | Partial Hospitalizations

Institutional health care of patients during the day. The patients return home at night.

Chromosome Deletion

Monosomy, Partial | Partial Monosomy | Chromosome Deletions | Deletion, Chromosome | Deletions, Chromosome | Monosomies, Partial | Partial Monosomies

Actual loss of a portion of the chromosome.

Lupus Coagulation Inhibitor

Lupus Anticoagulant | Anticoagulant, Lupus | Coagulation Inhibitor, Lupus | Inhibitor, Lupus Coagulation

An antiphospholipid antibody found in association with systemic lupus erythematosus (LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS, SYSTEMIC), ANTIPHOSPHOLIPID SYNDROME, and in a variety of other diseases as well as in healthy individuals. In vitro, the antibody interferes with the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and prolongs the partial thromboplastin time. In vivo, it exerts a procoagulant effect resulting in thrombosis mainly in the larger veins and arteries. It further causes obstetrical complications, including fetal death and spontaneous abortion, as well as a variety of hematologic and neurologic complications.

Epilepsy, Partial, Motor

Focal Motor Epilepsy | Motor Partial Seizure Disorder | Partial Epilepsy, Motor | Partial Seizure Disorder, Motor | Seizure Disorder, Partial, Motor | Focal Clonic Seizures | Focal Tonic Seizures | Hemimotor Epilepsy | Motor Seizure Disorder

A disorder characterized by recurrent localized paroxysmal discharges of cerebral neurons that give rise to seizures that have motor manifestations. The majority of partial motor seizures originate in the FRONTAL LOBE (see also EPILEPSY, FRONTAL LOBE). Motor seizures may manifest as tonic or clonic movements involving the face, one limb or one side of the body. A variety of more complex patterns of movement, including abnormal posturing of extremities, may also occur.
