Anion Exchange Resins

Anion Exchangers (Resins) | Exchange Resins, Anion | Resins, Anion Exchange

High-molecular-weight insoluble polymers that contain functional cationic groups capable of undergoing exchange reactions with anions.

Antiporters

Anion Exchange Proteins | Cation Exchange Proteins | Anion Exchangers (Proteins) | Cation Exchangers (Proteins) | Exchange Proteins, Anion | Exchange Proteins, Cation

Membrane transporters that co-transport two or more dissimilar molecules in the opposite direction across a membrane. Usually the transport of one ion or molecule is against its electrochemical gradient and is "powered" by the movement of another ion or molecule with its electrochemical gradient.

Anion Transport Proteins

Anion Pumps | ATPHPM | Anion Pump | Anion Transport Proteins (Hepatocyte Plasma Membrane) | Pump, Anion | Pumps, Anion

Membrane proteins whose primary function is to facilitate the transport of negatively charged molecules (anions) across a biological membrane.

Chromatography, Ion Exchange

Chromatography, Ion-Exchange | Ion-Exchange Chromatography | Chromatographies, Ion Exchange | Chromatographies, Ion-Exchange | Ion Exchange Chromatographies | Ion Exchange Chromatography | Ion-Exchange Chromatographies

Separation technique in which the stationary phase consists of ion exchange resins. The resins contain loosely held small ions that easily exchange places with other small ions of like charge present in solutions washed over the resins.

Needle-Exchange Programs

Syringe-Exchange Programs | Needle Exchange Programs | Needle-Exchange Program | Program, Needle-Exchange | Program, Syringe-Exchange | Programs, Needle-Exchange | Programs, Syringe-Exchange | Syringe Exchange Programs

Organized services for exchange of sterile needles and syringes used for injections as a potential means of reducing the transmission of infectious diseases.

Anion Exchange Protein 1, Erythrocyte

Anion Transport Protein, Erythrocyte | Band 3 Protein | Erythrocyte Anion Transport Protein | Erythrocyte Membrane Band 3 Protein | AE1 Anion Exchanger | AE1 Chloride-Bicarbonate Exchanger | AE1 Cl- HCO3- Exchanger | AE1 Gene Product

A ubiquitous membrane transport protein found in the plasma membrane of diverse cell types and tissues, and in nuclear, mitochondrial, and Golgi membranes. It is the major integral transmembrane protein of the erythrocyte plasma membrane, comprising 25% of the total membrane protein. It exists as a dimer and performs the important function of allowing the efficient transport of bicarbonate across erythrocyte cell membranes in exchange for chloride ion.

Ion Exchange Resins

Exchange Resins, Ion | Resins, Ion Exchange

High molecular weight, insoluble polymers which contain functional groups that are capable of undergoing exchange reactions (ION EXCHANGE) with either cations or anions.

Organic Anion Transporters

Membrane Transport Proteins, Organic Anion | Organic Anion Transport Polypeptides | OAT Transport Proteins | OATP Proteins | OATP Transporters | Organic Anion Transport Proteins | Anion Transporters, Organic | Transport Proteins, OAT

Proteins involved in the transport of organic anions. They play an important role in the elimination of a variety of endogenous substances, xenobiotics and their metabolites from the body.

Acid-Base Equilibrium

Anion Gap | Acid-Base Balance | Acid Base Balance | Acid Base Equilibrium | Anion Gaps | Balance, Acid-Base | Equilibrium, Acid-Base | Gap, Anion | Gaps, Anion

The balance between acids and bases in the blood plasma. Normally it results in a slightly alkaline state with an excess of hydroxyl ions in comparison to hydrogen. The balance is achieved by the offset of the ingestion and production of acidic and basic material by the amount of acidic and basic material metabolized and excreted by the body.

Cholestyramine

Cholestyramine Resin | Colestyramine | MK-135 | Colestyramin | Cuemid | Quantalan | Questran | Resin, Cholestyramine

A strongly basic anion exchange resin whose main constituent is polystyrene trimethylbenzylammonium as Cl(-) anion. It exchanges chloride ions with bile salts, thus decreasing their concentration and that of cholesterol. It is used as a hypocholesteremic in diarrhea and biliary obstruction, and as an antipruritic.
