In the presence of dsRNA and ATP, EUKARYOTIC INITIATION FACTOR-2 kinase autophosphorylates on several serine and threonine residues. The phosphorylated enzyme catalyzes the phosphorylation of the alpha subunit of EUKARYOTIC INITIATION FACTOR-2, leading to the inhibition of protein synthesis. |
