Gonadoblastoma

Gonadoblastomas

A DYSGERMINOMA that contains all gonadal elements - germ cells, sex cord derivatives, and stromal derivatives. It occurs almost exclusively in abnormal gonads, most often associated with some form of gonadal dysgenesis, frequently associated with abnormal chromosomal karyotype. It is rare and occurs almost exclusively during the first two decades of life. Almost 33% are associated with germinomas. Gonadoblastomas consist of large germ cells surrounded by smaller round, darkly staining Sertoli cells, forming microfollicles consisting of hyaline bodies and calcium deposits. (Dorland, 27th ed; DeVita Jr et al., Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology, 3d ed, p1643)
