A component of high density lipoproteins. It is instrumental in promoting efflux of cholesterol from extrahepatic tissue to the liver where it is metabolized and excreted from the body. This protein modulates the activation of lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase in the presence of apolipoprotein A-I. |
